THE SANATORIUM

Didworthy is now a small, peaceful residential hamlet on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park, Devon, in the South West of England.

In the early 1900’s some of the properties that existed here were developed, and new properties built to form “Didworthy Sanatorium for Consumptives” or the “Plymouth Chest Hospital”.

At its height the hospital supported 130 beds for patients

The hospital closed in 1968 and now all the properties have been converted to residential use.

This project aims to investigate some of the history of Didworthy, before, during and after the time of the hospital, and present this as a documentary film.
